Shiv Bari Temple (शिव बाड़ी मंदिर)

Shiv Bari Temple is a beautiful 19th-century temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located on the outskirts of Bikaner. Built entirely from red sandstone, the temple features a large Shiva lingam and four-faced idol of Lord Shiva (Chaturmukhi Shivling) in the sanctum. The temple complex is surrounded by lush gardens and is enclosed within high fortified walls with attractive cupolas and arched gateways, giving it a fort-like appearance. The serene ambiance, the beautiful garden setting amidst the arid desert landscape, and the intricate sandstone architecture make this temple a peaceful retreat from the city. The temple is especially revered during Maha Shivratri when thousands of devotees gather for special prayers and festivities.

History

The Shiv Bari Temple was built in the 19th century during the reign of Maharaja Dungar Singh of Bikaner. The temple was constructed as a private place of worship for the royal family and later opened to the public. The distinctive red sandstone architecture and fortified walls reflect the Rajputana building style of that era.
