Sadul Museum (Lalgarh Palace) (सादुल संग्रहालय (लालगढ़ पैलेस))

The Shri Sadul Museum is located on the first floor of Lalgarh Palace and is dedicated to the memory of Maharaja Sadul Singh of Bikaner (ruled 1943-1950). The museum houses an impressive collection of royal memorabilia including personal photographs of the royal family, royal decrees and documents, hunting trophies, a collection of arms and weapons, portraits of Bikaner rulers, medals, and awards. The museum provides a comprehensive look at the history of the Bikaner dynasty from its founding by Rao Bika in the 15th century to the merger of the princely state with independent India. The grand halls of Lalgarh Palace, with their ornate ceilings and European-influenced interiors, add to the museum experience. A highlight is the collection of photographs documenting Maharaja Ganga Singh's role in World War I and the Paris Peace Conference.

History

The museum was established by the Bikaner royal family in the 1970s to preserve the legacy of Maharaja Sadul Singh and the Bikaner dynasty. Maharaja Sadul Singh was the last ruling Maharaja of Bikaner, who signed the instrument of accession merging Bikaner with India in 1949. The museum occupies a portion of Lalgarh Palace that was built by Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob.
