Karni Mata Temple (Deshnok) (करणी माता मंदिर (देशनोक))
The Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok is one of India's most unique temples, famously known as the 'Rat Temple'. It's home to over 20,000 holy rats (called kabbas) that are believed to be reincarnated descendants of Karni Mata. Spotting a white rat is considered extremely auspicious. The temple features stunning silver gates donated by Maharaja Ganga Singh.

History
Karni Mata was a Hindu sage born in the 14th century, revered as an incarnation of Goddess Durga. The current temple was built in the early 20th century by Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner. The temple rats are considered sacred — the belief is that they are ancestors of Karni Mata's family who will be reborn as humans.
How to Reach
Take a taxi (Rs 500-700 round trip) or auto from Bikaner. Regular buses also run from Bikaner bus stand to Deshnok (Rs 20-30). Luxury Tour & Travels offers sightseeing packages including Deshnok.
