Bikaner's bazaars have been active for over 500 years, originally serving as trading posts on the caravan routes between Gujarat and Central Asia. The Kote Gate area became the commercial center as it was the main entrance to the walled city. Station Road developed after the railway arrived in Bikaner during the British period.
